I am an English speaking Clinical Psychologist in Private Practice in Pretoria and the Owner of Kim McKay Clinical Psychologist. I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and the Board of Healthcare Funders.

My Practice is based at Loftus Medical, in Loftus Park, Arcadia, Pretoria.  At the centre, I provide a range of psychological services including medico-legal assessments, Mediation and Psychotherapy.

I have an interest in working with adults and adolescents with a wide range of difficulties and struggles. I provide therapy to individuals, couples, families and groups. I also provide various psychological assessments to gain more information on an individual's behaviours, personality and capabilities. I work with a range of difficulties including mood difficulties, anxiety, stress, trauma, abuse, as well as relationship difficulties in families and couples. I also assist individuals to gain a deeper understanding of their lives thus facilitating personal growth.

Therapy can be very daunting and is a process with its ups and downs. It is not a linear process but is grounded in the relationship.  The therapy I provide takes place within an Interactional Framework which is underpinned by General Systems theory. This means that each client is viewed holistically and their relationships and environment are taken into consideration. The client is addressed not only on an individual level but also as people in relationships, dealing with interactions with others, their interactional patterns and dynamics.

  • Masters in Clinical Psychology (University of South Africa)

I completed my internship at Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital, where I was exposed to a psychiatric context working with the male and female population, as well as a forensic context. I also worked in the dual diagnosis unit treating mental illness and a comorbid substance use disorder.

I completed my community service at the Department of Correctional Services, where I was responsible for providing psychological (individual and group therapy) services to the male and female offender population. I was also responsible for conducting risk assessments for offenders eligible for parole for the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board (CSPB), National Council of Correctional Services (NCCS) and the Honourable Minister of Correctional Services.
