About Me

I am an English speaking Clinical Psychologist in Private Practice in Pretoria and the Owner of Kim McKay Clinical Psychologist. I am registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and the Board of Healthcare Funders.

My Practice is based at The Aviary, in Lynnwood Glen, Pretoria.  At the centre, I provide a range of psychological services including medico-legal assessments, Mediation and Psychotherapy.

I have an interest in working with adults and adolescents with a wide range of difficulties and struggles. I provide therapy to individuals, couples, families and groups. I also provide various psychological assessments to gain more information on an individual's behaviours, personality and capabilities. I work with a range of difficulties including mood difficulties, anxiety, stress, trauma, abuse, as well as relationship difficulties in families and couples. I also assist individuals to gain a deeper understanding of their lives thus facilitating personal growth.

Therapy can be very daunting and is a process with its ups and downs. It is not a linear process but is grounded in the relationship.  The therapy I provide takes place within an Interactional Framework which is underpinned by General Systems theory. This means that each client is viewed holistically and their relationships and environment are taken into consideration. The client is addressed not only on an individual level but also as people in relationships, dealing with interactions with others, their interactional patterns and dynamics.

Mediation is a process where two or more parties appoint a neutral third party (mediator) to help them in a non-binding dialogue to resolve a dispute and/or to conclude in terms of an agreement. Mediation is mostly a private and voluntary mechanism used by parties to avoid the costly alternative that is litigation. Any settlement terms reached during a mediation can be recorded and signed as an enforceable contract.

The following services are available in terms of mediation:

  • Family and Divorce Mediation - including child participation

  • Financial Mediation

  • Parenting Plans (including residency and contact plans)
